In this mean and selfish world, it is difficult (actually impossible) to come across somebody who says that if you don’t ask for things from him, he will be riled with you. But, never forget, that the All-Knowing, All-Powerful, Creator of Heaven and Hell, Almighty Allah is there who is always willing to give His servants what they want.
“And invoke him with fear and hope, surely the mercy of Allah is near to those who do good”. (Al-Aaraf, 7: 56)
Indeed Allah Almighty is near to us than our jugular vein and knows everything we are going through yet by invoking Him, we made ourselves humbled and submissive to Him as He is the sole Creator and everything is in His Powerful Control.
Holy Prophet (PBUH) once said,
“He who doesn’t ask Allah for favors, Allah is annoyed with him.”
And the most effective way to ask from Him is through the blessed and direct gateway of ‘Dua’. So, why is it that we shy or become reluctant in making dua when it is so rewarding? The only answer is our ignorance – we don’t know the power and importance of Dua.In fact, it is the most powerful weapon a believer has in possession.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, ‘Dua is Ibadah.’ (At-Trimidhi). He (PBUH) even further specified that ‘The most excellent worship is dua.’ (Al-hakim). It is fascinating that Dua is made by us for our own benefit yet we get rewarded for this simple act. Subhan Allah! It is indeed a great blessing on us exhibiting the Grace and Mercy of Almighty Allah on us.
Dua, undoubtedly, is so powerful that making it with sincerity and utmost faith can save us from the ferocious flames of Hell Fire and it is obvious that no Muslim wants to enter Hell. We are taught to make dua, for Allah Almighty says,
“…Invoke Me, I will answer your (invocation). Verily, those who scorn My worship they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!" (Al-Ghaffir, 40:60)
Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, “Nothing is dearer to Allah than one’s supplication to Him.” (Ibn Majah). He (PBUH) also said that Allah Almighty says, “…My servant continues to come nearer to Me through voluntary deeds until I love him, and when I love him, I become his ears with which he hears; I become his sight with which he sees; I become his hands with which he strikes; I become his legs with which he strides. If he asks Me, I shall surely grant his request. If he seeks My refuge, I shall protect him…” (Sahih Bukhari).
What a great message for a believer is conveyed through this wonderful hadith that he/she has nothing left to worry about if he/she totally relies on Allah and asks from Him for every need. Dua just gets us closer to Allah. It strengthens our belief on Him. It is more like a conversation with Him and we feel our heart getting lighten after we have shared about sufferings and difficulties with Him; we feel as if His Mercy is descending from Heavens to sooth and comfort us.
“Dua is a weapon of a believer, a pillar of religion, and a light of the heavens and the earth.” (Al-Hakim)
Dua possesses great power and has unbelievable significance. Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, “>Nothing can avert the decree of Allah except supplication…” (At-Tirmithi). He (PBUH) also said, “Dua is beneficial regarding calamities that have fallen and calamities that have not fallen. So, servants of Allah, devote yourself to dua.
” (At-Tirmithi). Imagine that you were going to board a bus to travel to a different city and before leaving home, you made a Dua. You missed to catch that bus which was decreed to involve in an accident on the road. Yes, with dua calamities and frights stay away from us. Just make Dua and you shall feel its supremacy.
“O mankind! It is you that have need of Allah: but Allah is the One Free of all wants, worthy of all praise(Faatir, 35:15)
So, don’t hesitate from now on to make Dua because the Almighty, All-Powerful, listens to all. Remember that “Verily your Lord is the One modest and Generous, and when His servant raises his hands to Him in supplication, He is shy from returning them empty.” (Ahmad, Abu Dawood and At-Trimidhi)
However, while making dua you must also bear in mind that it is not only in the times of dire need that you turn towards Him but you must make Dua all the times – moments of happiness as well as of grief. Holy Prophet (PBUH) advised us to make dua for our fellow brethren even in their absence for such dua is followed by “Amen” of the angels.
Remember, He is the one who created us and eventually, it is Him who we shall return to. So, let’s make this bondage strongest with the power of dua.
And Only Allah Almighty Knows Best!
