Marriage is a contract between a man and a woman; in the history of mankind the concept of marriage evolved through the ages and got its maturity in the era of Islam. Almost all the religions in the world have been telling their believers to contract marriage in order to fulfill their desire of having sexual relationship without throwing them into great sins. Regardless of the sects, Islam has almost equal treatment and definitions of the contract marriage; however the Islamic values present very fine and upright plan for contracting marriage between a man and a woman.
“And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect.” (Surah Ar-Rum, 30:21)
In Islam the marriage contract starts from the time of Nikah which is also a great Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). The Islamic institutions have given significant importance to the Nikah and marriage. Marriage is a significant relationship between two persons; husband and the wife, in which one guarantee the protection and care for the other whereas the other brings the message of hope, love, sincerity and entire satisfaction. The Islamic concept of marriage is so beautifully supported by the society that it really plays a significant role to keep its youngsters on track without getting them indulged into undesirable activities. It is also a source of transferring generations through the ages. There is no other concept for a man and a woman having any kind of relationship other than getting married. It legalizes the children and makes them great responsibility of the parents i.e., both mother and father.
According to Islamic teachings, marriage always have some objectives which needs to be shared among all the important stakeholders as it is not two persons rather it is two complete families getting connected with each other.
Almighty Allah defines this beautiful relationship as satisfaction; the entire satisfaction for both, husband and the wife. Holy Quran says that husband and wife are Libaas (clothes) for each other. They are permanent companions for the whole life. The home is said to be a complete institution which is supposed to be run by the both husband and wife. In Islam, marriage is composed of love, care, trust and compassion for each other. Islam narrates this beautiful relation as one of the most beautiful relationship in this world. In the current world there are many misconceptions about the meaning of marriage in Islam; however, fact is otherwise. Islam is a religion of peace and it teaches its believers to stay stuck with the golden Islamic principles.
No other religion defines the marriage in such a lovely manner as Islam clarifies this great concept. Man and women naturally have great attraction towards each other and this attraction if driven by some desires can lead the two to sort of sin; therefore through marriage Islam harmonizes the family and societal wellbeing. Muslim women have been assigned with great responsibility of looking after the house of her husband and undertaking training of the children. On the other hand the husband has been given full authority and responsibility of running the home as well as protecting the family structure.
